Seven Founders of the Servites

Feast Day February 17
Patron Saints of
Devotion to the Sorrows of Mary

With Our Lady of Sorrows as our patron, it is only natural that we here in the Marian Mantle Group would feel closeness to those men who fostered devotion to her.

Who are the Seven Founders?

In 13th Century Italy, a group of prominent men were gathered in prayer on the Feast of the Assumption.  The Blessed Mother appeared to them and asked them to devote themselves to her service.  They banded together, moved to a place of solitude, and intended to live lives of simple penance and prayer.  However, people began to seek them out.  After the Blessed Mother appeared to them again, they formed a new religious order, the Servants of Mary (Servites).  They led the world in developing great devotion to the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Mother.  The best known of those devotions is the Rosary (Chaplet) of the Seven Sorrows.

Our Lady of Sorrows and the Marian Mantle Group

Those of us who pray for Prodigal loved ones to return to the practice of the Catholic faith, have a few aids to help us in that prayer.  First of all, we turn to Our Lady of Sorrows because she understands the pain of watching a grown child walk into trouble in the world and feeling helpless to stop it.  The following items are designed for hurting hearts praying for prodigal loved one:
+Rosary Novena to Our Lady of Sorrows: For the Return of Our Loved ones to the Practice of the Catholic Faith (prayer book)
+Rosary Novena as above (2 CD recording)
+Grace in Her Tears (Meditations on the Seven Sorrows of Mary--can be used to pray the Chaplet) prayer booklet
+Grace Within Her Tears (Talk on the Seven Sorrows of Mary)
