Saint Teresa of Jesus (Avila)
Feast Day October 15

When St Teresa began her great work of reform she started with herself.  She experienced difficulty in prayer, yet she persevered and became known as a "teacher of prayer."  As those of us in the Marian Mantle Group begin to replace our worry and anxiety with peace and trust in God, we quickly find ourselves changing.  We are better able to love, better able to show compassion for others, and better able to persevere in prayer for others--especially those prodigals we love so much.

St. Teresa’s “Bookmark”

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things.
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.

"We shouldn't care at all about not having devotion--as I have said--but we ought to thank the Lord who allows us to be desirous of pleasing Him, even though our works may be weak. This method of keeping Christ present with us is beneficial in all stages and is a very safe means of advancing."

Prayers of St. Teresa of Avila

Christ has no body now but yours
No hands, no feet on earth but yours
Yours are the eyes through which He
looks  compassion on this world
Christ has no body now on earth
but yours. Amen

Lord, grant that I always allow myself to be guided by You, always follow Your plans, and perfectly accomplish Your Holy Will. Grant that in all things, great and small, all the days of my life, I may do whatever You require of me. Help me respond to the slightest prompting of Your Grace, that I may be a trustworthy instrument for Your honor. Amen.

Prayer for Renewal

Almighty God, send your Spirit to relight the flame of your love in our hearts. Mercifully grant that we, following the teaching and example of Teresa of Avila and others, may be filled with your Holy Spirit, and that our feet may be set upon the path that leads to true holiness; we ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Amen.
