St Rita of Cascia
Feast Day May 22

Patron of Impossible Causes

St Rita is a perfect intercessor for all MMG members who see the return of their prodigals as almost impossible.  St Rita knew the heartache of a parent who fears for a child's soul and who desires the rewards of a strong spiritual life for her family.  Through all of her pain, her faith and love for Jesus gave her strength.  May it do the same for us.

Who was Saint Rita?

Rita's husband was a rich, strong-willed man who was murdered by his enemies.  Rita feared for her sons' souls knowing that they would probably search for their father's killers one day to kill them in revenge. She prayed for the Lord to take them before this could happen.  Her sons both died.  Rita entered a convent and spent her remaining 40 years as a nun praying and caring for the sick and the poor.  Eventually, while at prayer her forehead received a wound from the Lord's crown of thorns.  She endured that wound for 15 years until she died in 1457. She was canonized in 1900 by Pope Leo XIII.

 Prayer Asking
the Intercession of St Rita

O glorious St. Rita, who didst so wonderfully participate in the Sorrowful Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ, obtain for me the grace to suffer with resignation the trials of this life, and protect me in all my necessities.

Let Us Pray:  Oh God, who in Thy Goodness, didst bestow on St. Rita abundant grace to love all who injured her; to have her heart ever devoted to Jesus Christ, our Savior; and her forehead wounded from thought of His suffering - grant, we beseech Thee, that through her intercession and merits we also may fully pardon our enemies, and be so mindful of Jesus sorrowful unto death that we may merit the reward He has promised to the meek of heart and to all who suffer patiently for His sake; Who livest and reignest forever and ever.Amen.
