St Philip Neri
Feast Day May 26

Patron of Youth and Those Who Serve

MMG members would do well to adopt St Philip Neri's attitude of a cheerful temperment.  The ability to see the humor in situations, especially one involving those we love, can help to prevent futile confrontations and increase good will so that the lines of communication will remain open.  We cannot help someone whom we cannot reach.  Let us keep each other and our prodigal loved ones in our prayers and in our hearts.

Who was Saint Philip Neri?

Philip was a student, a teacher, and a businessman who became a priest in 1551, after spending more than a dozen years in a lay ministry of prayer and service.  He became influential in the Counter-Reformation movement.  As a confessor, he spent hours hearing confessions and had the ability to   tell penitents their sins before they confessed. His special sense of humor endeared him to those he served. through humor he was knock down walls of pretense that kept others from service.  His humor was always shown in a charitable way.  He served the youth of his time through music and other activities that helped keep them safe and happy.

"St. Philip possessed a playful humour, combined with a shrewd wit. He considered a cheerful temper to be more Christian than a melancholy one, and carried this spirit into his whole life."

Marian Prayer of Saint Philip Neri

Mary, I love you.
Mary, make me live in God, with God, and for God.
Draw me after you, holy mother.
O Mary, may your children persevere in loving you.
Mary, Mother of God and mother of mercy, pray for me and for the departed.
Mary, holy Mother of God, be our helper.
In every difficulty and distress, come to our aid, O Mary.
O Queen of Heaven, lead us to eternal life with God.
Mother of God, remember me, and help me always to remember you.
O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray to Jesus for me.
