Saint Vincent Pallotti

Feast Day January 22
Patron Saint of
Students

St. Vincent’s life is one that MMG members may find helpful when praying for their prodigals.  He was involved with young people and their education. His dream was to enable lay people to assume their proper role in the mission of the Church and to establish a community to translate his vision into reality.  He founded the Pallottines Order to remind the Church that the lay people are essential members and that, together with clergy and those in consecrated life, we are all sent as apostles for the Church and the World.

Who is St Vincent Pallotti

Vincent worked with youth groups.  As a priest, he became aware of those whose work hours prevented them from attending school. He organized volunteer teachers to for evening classes in the parish hall.  The project was so successful many other night schools followed.

As a youth, Vincent was a member of the "Sodality of the Blessed Virgin " and became especially devoted to Mary.

Vincent had a gift for getting volunteers involved in charity projects.  When deadly disease struck Rome, he organized help for the homeless and hungry, such as the Pious House of St. Agatha for orphan girls.  The lay volunteers there formed the beginning of the Pallottine Sisters who today work for the education and Christian formation of young people.

Along with his work with youth, as a diocesan priest he continued to garner help to provide for the local needs of the Church and for those of the foreign missions. Called the precursor of Catholic Action, St/ Vincent was praised by Popes Pius XI, Pius XII, and John XXIII.

Prayer to St. Vincent Pallotti (1795-1850)
 ~C
anonized by Pope John XXIII
at the Second Vatican Council~

Father, we thank You for your gifts. Support us to live in a spirit of gratitude, humility and prayer. Help us to imitate Jesus the Apostle as did St Vincent Pailotti.

Revive our Faith, Strengthen our Hope, rekindle our Charity, and to live and spread them in our world. Give us a profound experience of You, and of your Word as the light and guide for our way.

May the Eucharist nourish our spirit and make us authentic witnesses of Jesus,  transform our families and communities, make them open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that with Mary Queen of Apostles they may affect the growth of Your kingdom.

St Vincent, keep us faithful to the charism and mission entrusted to us, help us persevere in holiness, and may our lives be filled with compassion and love.   Amen.

Words from St Vincent Pallotti

"Do not be stingy with God, rather, be generous."

"As a servant of God, do not trust yourself and your strength completely, but put all your trust in the infinite power of divine grace."

"What I tell others to do, I must first do myself."

"Divine Providence has already made it our obligation to help others in their difficult temporal needs.  In addition, we must help them all the more in their spiritual needs."
