Saint Thomas Aquinas

Feast Day January 28
Patron Saint of
Students

If there is one thing we in the Marian Mnatle Group hope for it is that our prodigal loved ones will search for and discover Truth.  Unfortunately, some are lured by  the excitement and adventure of a world with few moral obligations, and still more seek congregations and pastors who tailor the message to fit personal attitudes and culture. They accept teaching without authority and reject the fullness of faith found in the Holy Eucharist. We can ask St Thomas Aquinas to intercede for our loved ones that they might find that very truth he wrote about.

Who is St Thomas Aquinas

     St. Thomas is a doctor of the Church whose  greatest contribution is his writings through which he showed that the whole natural order  comes from God the Creator, and that reason is a divine gift to be highly cherished.
     His writing  systematized the  great thoughts and teaching of the Catholic Church. By papal command, his teachings are studied by all theology students. He was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church in 1567.

St Thomas on Truth

“Hence we must say that for the knowledge of any truth whatsoever man needs divine help, that the intellect may be moved by God to its act. But he does not need a new light added to his natural light, in order to know the truth in all things, but only in some that surpasses his natural knowledge”
       ~Summa Theologiae, I-II, 109, 1

Tantum Ergo
Hymn Written by St Thomas

Down in adoration falling,
Lo! the sacred Host we hail;
Lo! o'er ancient forms departing,
newer rites of grace prevail;
faith for all defects supplying,
where the feeble sense fail.
To the everlasting Father,
and the Son who reigns on high,
with the Holy Ghost proceeding
forth from Each eternally,
be salvation, honor, blessing,
might and endless majesty.
Amen.
