Saint Lucy
Feast Day December
13
Patron Saint of the Blind
and the Young
Lucy is
one of the patron saints of those who cannot see--some with their eyes and some
with their hearts. For MMG members, this makes her an advocate for our
prodigals, especially those young people, that their eyes might be opened to the
Truth and their hearts might embrace the Good News of the Gospel.. |
Who is Saint Lucy?
Lucy was
a young, wealthy, Sicilian woman who became a virgin martyr. A young man who
wanted to marry her turned her in as a Christian and she was arrested, tortured
and martyred. Legend says she lost her eyes/eyesight in some manner whether
self-inflicted or through torture. This she is the patron of the blind and
those with eye disorders. She is especially celebrated by people of
Scandinavian
descent as hers is one of the few saints’ feasts to be observed in Scandinavian
countries. The name Lucy means light. In traditional celebrations, Saint Lucy
comes bearing light, often with a procession lead by one girl wearing a crown of
lighted candles, followed by others who each carry a single lighted candle.

Prayer for the
Intercession
of St Lucy
We venerate your servant, St. Lucy, for
the light of faith you did bestow upon her, We ask you to increase and to
preserve this same light in our souls. We ask her intercession for our
young and those who are blind to the light of Christ, that their eyes and hearts
may be opened to receive Grace and Divine Mercy. We humbly ask, by the
intercession of your servant, St. Lucy that you would give perfect vision to our
eyes, that they may serve for your greater honor and glory, and for the
salvation of our souls that we may enjoy the unfailing light of the Lamb of God
in paradise.
St. Lucy, virgin and martyr, hear our prayer and obtain our petitions.
